False Alarm Information
Portland Police respond to hundreds of false alarm calls every year. These unnecessary responses result in an enormous burden in resources and expense, which in turn reduces officer availability to respond to real emergencies.
Registering your alarm and keeping your contact information up to date helps reduce false alarms and ensures officers can focus on real emergencies. Thank you for helping keep Portland safe.
You may appeal a false alarm citation if you believe the citation was issued in error. Common reasons include incorrect alarm data, a verified emergency, or a system malfunction beyond your control.
Appeals must be submitted within 14 days of the citation date. Once filed, you’ll receive a hearing date with the Municipal Court. To begin your appeal, click the “Appeal Process” button above or contact our team at alarms@police.portlandoregon.gov.
